Just do it!

She’s here! Our first Young Woman to Watch 2013! We were truly inspired by Signe Nørgaard’s get up and go attitude as well as her warm generosity in lending advice and encouragement to others. What’s more she’s innovating Brussels with a two-tier consultancy that is drawing in clients left, right and centre. When we need an agent, we’ll know who to call!

Danish born Signe has a background in the arts, sociology and is a gender diversity specialist. Her consultancy service caters to both sociological and creative sector clients in parallel. She decided to go it alone as an entrepreneur when, within a short space of time, two contacts independently asked her to be their agent. Signe spotted an opportunity to bring her two passions in life together and to acheive fulfilment in her career.

“I have always been challenged by the fact that one half of me is artistic, devoted to aesthetics and to creative expression, while the other half of me is fascinated by the mundane world of business, politics and power structures. My first clients saw something in me that I had not yet discovered myself and asked me to use it as their agent. Finding that state of ease was my defining moment. I began listening to other people and realised that I had in fact always been refining public relations and representation as the core of my skill set, ever since my first job as a hostess at a Tuscan vineyard when I was 19 years old. The funniest thing was that these two people represented the two different professional paths which I had been trying to unite for so long: the artistic and the sociological.”

“By following my passion I am rediscovering each day that it’s now my turn to have fun. This is the most precious lesson of them all. A true gift. If I were to give a single piece of advice from the lessons I’ve learned on this part of my journey it would be: seek out positive, supportive people and listen to the qualities they see in you.

Avoid people who bring you down, knowingly or unknowingly, it doesn’t matter, and avoid them at all costs. In a start-up you can go for months and even years finding it difficult to make ends meet and you often face rejection. Much of the time, the only thing you have to hold on to is your steadfast belief that you can make it and even the strongest person is bound to waver now and then, so you have to create a supportive environment that will help you find your inner strength again and again. My cheerleading slogan for you these days: Just do it! Like you knew it. And you will learn!

We’ll bring you more amazingness from Signe as she continues her journey in the future.
